Video and audio to quiz
Turn a YouTube video into a quiz, then check what stuck
Paste the link to a talk or an online course, or drop a lecture recording. Mindlet transcribes it, finds the key notions and quizzes you on them, without making you rewatch the video.

Just a link Step by step
How do you turn a YouTube video into a quiz?
Four steps, from copied link to first quiz. Button names are the French labels you'll see in the app.
-
Copy the video's link
The standard link, a short youtu.be link or a Short. A playlist on its own isn't accepted: add the videos one by one.
-
Paste it into Mindlet
Tap “Ajouter” (Add), then paste the link into “Ou colle un lien ou un texte” (or paste a link or some text). It's recognised as a “Vidéo YouTube”; tap “Ajouter ce lien” (add this link).
-
Tap “Créer ma collection”
Mindlet fetches the subtitles or transcribes the audio, then finds the notions and writes the cards.
-
Take the quiz
Multiple choice, true or false, flashcards: you check what you remember, and the cards you miss come back over the following days.
Supported sources
Lectures, podcasts, recordings: which audio and video formats?
A YouTube link, a video file or a plain recording made on your phone.
| Source | What Mindlet does with it | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube link | The video's subtitles, otherwise a Voxtral transcription (Mistral AI) | 4 hours of video; no playlist on its own |
| Video file: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, M4V, MPEG, WMV | Transcription and screenshots of key moments | 2 GB and 4 hours |
| Audio file: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, Opus, FLAC, WMA | Transcription | 500 MB and 4 hours |
A lecture recorded with your phone's voice recorder (often an M4A file) uploads like any other audio file. Split anything longer than four hours into parts before importing it.
What the AI keeps
What does the AI keep from a one-hour video?
The substance, organised. The video's text is broken into notions, grouped into topics and sub-topics, just like a PDF. The cards are about those notions; tangents and “hi everyone” have nothing to teach you, and the AI leaves them out.
For a video file, Mindlet also takes screenshots of key moments, useful when the lecture leans on a whiteboard or a slide. Got the slides as a PDF? Add them to the same collection, and the cards draw on both sources.
- An English video gives English cards
- The video and its slides in one collection
- Key-moment screenshots for video files
After watching
From quiz to flashcards: keeping the video in memory
A video watched once fades fast. The next day's quiz shows you what stuck, and spaced repetition then brings each card back right when you were about to forget it.
The same collection can also become a study guide or a two-voice podcast to listen to on your commute.

Teachers: one video, one class quiz
Found a good video to open a chapter? Turn it into questions before class, then run a live quiz: the questions show on the projector and each student answers from their phone.
Live rooms are hosted from a school's workspace; students join with a code. Always review the questions before sharing them with a group.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a quiz from a YouTube video?
Copy the video's link, open Mindlet, tap “Ajouter” (Add) and paste the link into the import field. Tap “Ajouter ce lien” (add this link), then create the collection. The AI fetches the subtitles or transcribes the video, then generates multiple-choice questions, true or false questions and flashcards.
Can I turn a lecture recording into notes?
Yes. Upload the recording (MP3, M4A, WAV and most audio formats, up to 500 MB and four hours): Mindlet transcribes it and turns it into cards. From the collection, you can then generate a study guide that covers the lecture topic by topic.
Does it work on videos without subtitles?
Yes. When a YouTube video has no subtitles, Mindlet transcribes its audio with Voxtral, Mistral AI's transcription model. Results depend on sound quality: a clear voice without loud music transcribes better.
What is the maximum video length?
Four hours per video or recording, whether it's a YouTube link or a file. A video file can be up to 2 GB, an audio file up to 500 MB. The limit is the same on every plan; beyond it, split the recording.
Is it legal to make a quiz from a YouTube video?
For studying, you're working on a video you'd watch anyway, and the questions stay in your collection. Publicly sharing a collection that reproduces a video's content is another matter: its creator's rights apply, and it's best to ask for permission. This answer isn't legal advice.
Can I import a whole YouTube playlist?
No, a playlist link on its own isn't accepted. Add the videos one by one to the same collection: each becomes a source, and the cards from every video are reviewed together.
