Two models

Community or your own material

Knowunity's core is study notes published by students, whom it calls "Knowers". Knowunity claims more than 30 million users and a very large catalogue; its terms say content goes through an algorithmic check before publication. Finding a note on a curriculum chapter is often quick.

Mindlet doesn't start from another student's notes but from your own course: the one your teacher handed out, with its structure and examples. The AI turns it into cards, multiple-choice questions and open questions, and spaced repetition brings them back at the right time. Mindlet also has a Discover section with shared collections, but that's not where you start.

The AI

The AI on each side

Knowie, Knowunity's AI, explains an exercise step by step, answers questions and generates flashcards, quizzes, study plans and practice exams. Knowunity says it works with several providers: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Mistral AI.

Mindlet's assistant knows your collections: it explains a notion another way, quizzes you, creates cards, and can talk to you out loud (in French only). Cards, document reading and voice run mainly on models from Mistral AI, a French company. Whatever the tool, AI can get things wrong: check what it produces.

Memory

Spaced repetition and tracking

On the Knowunity pages we checked, spaced repetition isn't named. Knowunity writes that Knowie spots topics you're stuck on and brings them back later, and it offers study plans. We couldn't verify more about how that scheduling works.

In Mindlet, every review is scheduled by FSRS-6, card by card, with settings adjusted weekly to how you forget. Each day you see what's due, you get at most one reminder a day, and your stats show what you're retaining. More on spaced repetition.

Forgetting curve and spaced reviews Without review, memory of a lesson drops within days. Each review, placed just before forgetting, lifts memory back up and makes the next drop slower. What you remember Time review 1 review 2 review 3 With spaced reviews Without review
Illustration of the principle, not a measurement.

Price and ads

Price, ads and data

Knowunity is mostly free, with ads. Pro removes the ads, lifts the AI limits and adds exam grading; its French site listed it at €49.99 a year on 22 October 2026, next to a struck-through price that suggests a promotion. Weekly plans exist too. Its privacy policy mentions advertising tools (subject to consent) and says a transfer of data to the United States cannot be ruled out.

Mindlet shows no ads and sells no data. The free plan has no time limit; paid plans, from €5.99 a month on the web (€4.99 billed yearly), raise your generation capacity and cost a little more through the app stores. Purchases are for adults only. Details in your data and on pricing.

Which one for you?

Knowunity or Mindlet: it depends on you.

Pick Knowunity if…

  • you want notes other students already wrote on your curriculum;
  • you mainly want homework help, exercise by exercise;
  • you are under 13 and a parent has agreed;
  • you want an interface in English or another language, and ads don't bother you.

Pick Mindlet if…

  • you want to study your own course, not someone else's;
  • you want spaced repetition that schedules every card;
  • you prefer an app with no ads;
  • you want practice exams graded out of 20, topic by topic, and a French interface is fine.

Switching

Moving from Knowunity to Mindlet

There's no Knowunity import. But the most useful thing to bring into Mindlet is your course, not a note.

  1. Gather your courses

    Handouts, slides, photos of your notebook, video links: whatever you got in class.

  2. Drop them into Mindlet

    Tap « Ajouter » (add), then « Dépose ton cours ici » (drop your course here). iPhone HEIC photos aren't supported yet: export them as JPEG.

  3. Check the cards

    Mindlet generates cards in several formats. Fix or delete anything that doesn't suit you.

  4. Review a little every day

    Mindlet shows you the cards that are due. A short session is often enough.
