Where you start

A shared library or cards from your own material

Quizlet's long-standing strength is its library: hundreds of millions of sets made by other students and teachers, on almost any subject. For common vocabulary or a textbook notion, the set probably already exists. The catch: a set written by someone else follows their course, not yours.

Mindlet starts from your document. You drop in the handout, the slides or the lecture recording, and the AI turns it into cards that match what you'll actually be tested on. Quizlet can also generate cards or a Study Guide from your notes; Mindlet goes further on the range of formats, and on what happens next: scheduling.

  • PDFs (even scanned), Word, PowerPoint, video, audio, YouTube, websites
  • A dozen formats: multiple choice, fill in the blank, ordering, open questions…
  • Study guide, mind map and podcast from the same collection

Memory

Learn mode or FSRS spaced repetition

Quizlet offers several ways to study a set: Flashcards, Learn, Test, Match. Learn builds a personalised path; the free plan limits how many rounds you get. Quizlet also has a spaced repetition mode on the website, which brings cards back based on your answer (Repeat, Hard, Okay, Easy). Quizlet doesn't publish which algorithm it uses.

In Mindlet, spaced repetition isn't a mode you pick: it's how the whole app decides what you review today, on the web and on mobile. The engine, FSRS-6, adjusts its settings every week to how you forget. And reviewing never costs anything, whatever your plan.

Forgetting curve and spaced reviews Without review, memory of a lesson drops within days. Each review, placed just before forgetting, lifts memory back up and makes the next drop slower. What you remember Time review 1 review 2 review 3 With spaced reviews Without review
Illustration of the principle, not a measurement.

Price

What stays free on each side

On Quizlet, the free plan keeps flashcards, Match and set creation, with ads. Learn is capped at a limited number of rounds per set, and Test at one practice test per set. Quizlet Plus (€7.99 a month or €35.99 a year in France) removes ads and raises those limits; Plus Unlimited (€9.99 a month or €44.99 a year) lifts them. Students in a teacher's class get unlimited Learn and Test.

Mindlet has no ads, free plan included. That plan gives you 3 collections and 100 cards with no time limit, and every review stays free. Paid plans, from €5.99 a month on the web (€4.99 billed yearly), raise your generation capacity; through the App Store or Google Play they cost a bit more. Mindlet has no free trial of its paid plans: the free plan plays that role. See pricing.

In class

Teachers: Quizlet Live and the live room

Classic Quizlet Live is a classroom game a teacher starts from a free teacher account: students join on their own devices, in teams or alone. It's a proven, widely used format.

Mindlet has a comparable live room: a quiz on the projector, everyone answers from their phone. Hosting it is reserved for school spaces; from a personal account you can only join with a code. Between students, challenges allow a one-on-one duel on a collection. For schools, Mindlet adds classes, homework and tracking by notion: see teachers and schools.

Which one for you?

Quizlet or Mindlet: it depends on you.

Pick Quizlet if…

  • you want to reuse sets other people have already made;
  • you mostly study vocabulary or short definitions;
  • your teacher already uses Quizlet and Quizlet Live in class;
  • you need the interface in English or another language than French.

Pick Mindlet if…

  • you want cards from your own course, not a course next door;
  • you want spaced repetition everywhere, with no mode to choose;
  • you want practice exams graded out of 20 and varied formats;
  • you prefer an app with no ads, even for free, and a French interface is fine.

Switching

Moving from Quizlet to Mindlet

Mindlet has no direct Quizlet import. There is a route through plain text, which works well for sets you created yourself.

  1. Export the set from Quizlet

    On the website, open a set you created, use the « … » menu, Export, then copy the text. Quizlet doesn't export sets you copied from another user, or images.

  2. Save it as a text file

    Paste the text into a .txt or .tsv file, with a tab between term and definition and one card per line.

  3. Import it into Mindlet

    Choose « Importer un paquet Anki » (import an Anki deck): that import also accepts text, CSV and TSV files, and lets you pick the columns.

  4. Or start from the course

    Often faster: drop in the original course material, and Mindlet generates cards in several formats.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free Quizlet alternative?

It depends on how you study. For cards you write yourself, Anki is free on desktop and Android. For cards drawn from your own material, with no ads, Mindlet has a free plan with no time limit (3 collections, 100 cards, free reviews), but its interface is in French. Our study app comparison covers seven tools.

Is Quizlet still free?

Partly. As of 22 October 2026, the free plan lets you create sets and study with flashcards, with ads. Learn allows only a limited number of rounds per set and Test to one practice test per set. Quizlet Plus costs €7.99 a month or €35.99 a year in France.

Can I import my Quizlet sets into Mindlet?

Not directly: Mindlet has no Quizlet import. Export the set as text from the Quizlet website (possible for sets you created), save it as .txt or .tsv, then use « Importer un paquet Anki », which accepts text files and lets you pick the columns.

Does Quizlet use spaced repetition?

Yes, Quizlet has a spaced repetition mode on its website: it brings cards back based on your answer and lets you set how many new cards you see per day. Quizlet doesn't publish the algorithm. Mindlet applies spaced repetition to every review, with FSRS-6. More on spaced repetition.

Quizlet or Anki for exams?

Both work. Quizlet is handy for reusing existing sets, Anki for people who want to write their own cards and tune their reviews closely. If your courses are already PDFs or slides, Mindlet saves you the typing and adds practice exams graded out of 20. See also Mindlet vs Anki.

Does Mindlet show ads?

No. There are no ads in the Mindlet app, free plan included, and no data resale. The mindlet.app website sets no trackers.
