The Mindlet app is in French. This guide quotes each button as it appears on screen, in French, with its English meaning in brackets. Your own courses and cards can be in English or eight other languages.
Besides the practice exam, a collection’s « S’évaluer » (Test yourself) tab offers two short tests. They use the cards that are already there: nothing to prepare, nothing to generate. Both need a connection.
The placement test
It’s for when you already know part of the course. Its tile says so: « Tu connais déjà une partie ? Fais le point » (Already know some of it? Take stock).
- Open the collection, then the « S’évaluer » tab, and tap « Test de placement » (Placement test).
- Answer the questions, with no timer. There are twenty at most.
- All answers are marked together, at the end.
- The cards you got right are spaced out, so you focus on what’s still new.
The tile only appears when the collection lends itself to it, usually right after an import.
The timed test
In the « S’évaluer » tab, tap « Épreuve chronométrée » (Timed test). It mixes all your cards and formats: six to eight cards, 30 seconds each, then your score. You can take it again twelve hours later; until then, the tile tells you when to come back.
What about shadowing?
When a collection contains recorded sentences, a « Shadowing » tile appears: you repeat each sentence aloud, and Mindlet shows you which words it understood and your pace. It’s free practice: it doesn’t count towards your progress.
